On August 25, 2024, Lestarry Heights was transformed into a vibrant celebration of national pride and unity during the Sayang Malaysia event, generously sponsored by MZEC Development. Under a clear, sunny sky, approximately 400 attendees from diverse backgrounds gathered to honour Malaysia’s rich cultural tapestry.
The day began with a burst of creativity as 150 young artists participated in a colouring contest organized by the Lions Club from 9 am to 11 am. This beloved community initiative, which has been a hallmark of the event for many years, reflects a long-standing partnership between MZEC Development Lions Club Mentakab. The presence of Mr. Ang Choon Poh and Mr. Ang Choon Meng, MZEC Development’s directors, deeply underscored the organization’s commitment to community engagement.
From noon to 3 pm, the event showcased an array of cultural performances. The rhythmic beats of the Overture Joget Dance set the stage for a moving rendition of “Hidup Bersama” by DJ Fakrul, accompanied by Aki Seruling’s flute. This poem, penned by the esteemed Malaysian poet A. Samad Said, highlights themes of unity and perseverance. The poem speaks to the collective effort required to overcome challenges and the importance of staying true to one’s ideals in the pursuit of a common goal. Through evocative imagery and powerful language, it underscores the enduring spirit of togetherness that binds the Malaysian people.
The cultural program continued with the B’ZY Band’s dynamic performance, 14-year-old Orang Asli singer Herra’s poignant rendition of “Standing In The Eyes of The World,” and Kudin Khalid’s resonant performance as a finalist from Senandung Rakyat Pahang. Traditional Indian Dance and the Season Drums performance added to the event’s multicultural richness, culminating in a spirited rendition of “Rasa Sayang.”
Beyond the stage, the event featured interactive activities such as the National Day Quiz and a children’s art workshop, where young participants explored creativity through lacquer and wooden bookmark painting. The Lucky Draw added excitement, creating a sense of community anticipation.
The Sayang Malaysia event exemplified the strength of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and long-term community partnerships, particularly the enduring collaboration between the Lions Club and local organizations like MZEC Development. As the event came to a close, the echoes of laughter, music, and shared pride left a lasting impression of unity and celebration. This event was not just a display of Malaysia’s cultural diversity but a testament to the power of community, cooperation, and commitment to a common cause.
